Rewind: Pre-School Christmas

One thing that I love about our school is that it was handled by teachers who know and Love God. Not only did they teach the academe lessons – they also laid the foundation of my love for God. The pre-school that I studied was a part of the local church we attend every sunday, so students having programs and special numbers are the norm. In fact I can accurately recall a song that we sang one Christmas – probably when I was at Preparatory. The title of the song is “Christmas is a time to love”. I can still remember myself looking at my classmates while we were on stage singing this song, and every Christmas, I am always reminded of this song – although it’s not popular, I still find myself humming to this lovely song about Christmas and Love.

Rewind: Pre-School

I have a rather sketchy memory of my pre-school days.  Here are some things I can recall:

- I cry when Tito Ruben does not fetch me on time. Up to now, Tito Ruben is still the Tito that I call for when I need help.
- Most of my memory of preschool revolves around rain – I could remember me and my classmates wearing jackets most of the time
- I also remember bamboo bridges that we had to cross everyday to get to school, probably due to the flood. I guess it’s about the same as Z’s memory of his pre-school, tainted by Ondoy.
- I remember hating the “forced” sleep time that is part of our daily activity.
- Our teacher used Masking Tape on our mouths when we were noisy. I can even remember the smell. I’m not sure if that was good or bad, but I definitely will have a long talk with Z’s teacher if they will apply the same.
- I already had crushes as early as Kinder! I think Z is pretty much the same, although we don’t seem to agree with our taste in girls.

There are probably more so I’ll probably post a follow up when needed.

Van Halen Vs. Nike Shoes

If you are a fan of Eddie Van Halen and his guitar work, then you know his red, white and black splatter-striped “Frankenstrat”. This is his true signature. In fact, Van Halen had the color scheme copyrighted in 2001. Now he is after Nike because he says the sports wear giant put a similar design on one of their Dunk Lows sneakers. Take a look at the sneakers and you be the judge. By the way – I’d love to own one of these pairs!

Rewind: Manila Zoo

Another ancient memory that I have is going to Manila Zoo when I was probably 2 or 3.  I was wearing my favorite pair of shoes, it has a cloth like tongue that covers the shoe laces.  I really loved it and I can even remember that feeling.  I also loved the matching shirt that I wore with that shoe.  These events along with the shoes and shirt were captured by a random photographer in Manila Zoo.  I’ll attach it here when I get it scanned, it’s funny because I wasn’t looking at the camera when the shot was taken -  I was busy looking at a balloon fly somewhere on the other side.  Zooming back to the future – I’m still in touch with everyone on the picture, though we all have our own families now, it’s nice to know that once upon an ancient time – we spent a few hours of our lives there on Manila Zoo, and probably was happy.

I have since brought Z and my wife to Manila Zoo and have our very own memory and family picture there.  So probably Z will be looking at it when he gets old and feel the same mixed emotions as I feel right now.  I hope when he looks back – it would be a happy memory, and I hope we would be there with him to tell him the back story.

Everybody Praise the Lord

I wish Lincoln was already out praising the Lord this way when I was still an active church musician! I sure would have introduced his songs to our church! Anyway here is a song that inspires me every time. His awesome guitar work contrasted by the simple message of the song – to thank the Lord for everything! And that is the reason that everybody should Praise the Lord. :)

Roll Over

Here is an old vid where you can see Z training his beloved pet “Chewee”. Chewee is currently sick right now and taking meds. His conditions are improving so we are very thankful. As you can see on the vid, he is very fun to play with and he loves Z and all of us as much as we love him.

Rewind: Oldest Memory.

First things first – what is the oldest memory that I have?  The oldest memory that I can remember was unfortunately an unhappy one.  It was me crying in front of our door, probably around 2 to 3 years old when I was still not studying.  I was with my brother crying because our parents we’re both working away and the person who was in charge of taking care of us – probably an aunt – left us home alone to go some place for reasons I could not remember.  She locked up the door and of course I was scared and cried along with my brother who was 1 year younger than me.  I can remember this very vividly, the color of the door – the wooden kid safety “gate” that also blocks it.  I would assume that this was a regular scene at our house when our aunt had to go somewhere.

Looking back to it now, I hope that my son Z would have the happiest Oldest Memory on earth.  Well, with the help of high tech gadgets  – I’m sure he’ll have more memories to relive than he can probably handle.
