Female Participation in Online Casino Games on the Rise
With a specifically designated “Women in Poker” Hall of Fame, it’s no surprise more and
more women today are entertaining their own growing interest in online casino games.
Poker, black jack and big six aren’t just for the boys these days – and it no wonder,
because either online or at a casino, there’s big money up for grabs, no matter your
gender.
In September 2010, three of the biggest names in the gambling world today will be
inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame – and they are all women. At the Golden Nugget
Casino in Las Vagas, Jennifer Harman, Kathy Liebert and Billie Brown will proudly
accept their places in history. The Ladies’ International Poker Series founded the Women
in Poker Hall of Fame in 2008 because it recognized a gaping hole in the way successful
gamers were rewarded – mostly by men, for men. But in recent years, female interest
in gambling has boomed and enjoyed exponential growth, largely thanks to the highly
anticipated World Series of Poker’s top 10 finalists including more and more women
each year.
Online casino games aren’t the only traditionally male-dominated worlds recently
infiltrated by women. In fact, more and more, women are entering lines of work typically
flooded with men. Today, automobile body repair and automobile mechanics have seen a
369 percent increase in the number of female workers since the 1980s. Stack that against
the 360 percent increase in female police detectives, and a 196 percent increase in female
civil engineers since that same time, and it appears the gals are staking their claim over
more than just male hobbies like online gambling.
The male/female shift in so many hobbies, interests and professions can only benefit our
country long-term. Young girls and boys no longer feel the same pressure they once did
to enter fields or entertain interests specific to their gender – which ultimately leads to
more work/life fulfillment.
