We where looking for a good Christening gift because my wife was chosen as “ninang” or “godmother” for a friend’s son. At first we were looking at the typical choice which is baby clothing.

The gifts would do well for the older sister which will probably undergo communion in one or two years time.

After looking around some more, we finally settled for another typical gift, a toy set for babies. Since the brand we got it from is known for infant wear and products, we know that their best seller toys will not disappoint both the baby, his older sister and his parents.

Yoyo Reinvented

I grew up playing with yoyos. My friends and I had a grand time playing with this simple but ingenuous toy. I remember watching some people on TV playing tricks with the yoyo. I practiced hard but I never did learn their secret.

Now I fount out that these people were using a special kind of yoyo. I heard that it was Tom Kuhn who reinvented the yoyo in the 1970s so that players can perform tricks with it. I wish I can buy one of these the soonest so I can learn. I want to teach my son to play yoyo since children these days have nothing to do but play in front of the PC. I know a yoyo will keep him occupied and improve his concentration and dexterity.

Dao Diamond Hotel and Tagbilaran City

When we went to Bohol, we decided to stay at a hotel in Tagbilaran City. We chose Dao Diamond Hotel because of the great reviews that it got and because of their support for the deaf people which comprise their staff. Another plus for Dao Diamond is that it is very close to Island City Mall and to the airport and is reasonably near the beach resorts at Panglao Island. If you are looking for a noisy and busy hotel with glittering lights like Las Vegas casinos, you might want to look for other hotels.

Dao Diamond hotel has a serene ambience and since the staff are mostly deaf – the place is very, very quiet. Its perfect for those that are looking for a relaxing place to stay. The hotel also has a free Wi-Fi, although its not as reliable. Still its enough for many of the tourists to check their emails or play Online casinos which seems to be popular with them.

Having stayed at the Hotel and having traveled a few times within Tagbilaran, I have mostly good things to say. Although labeled as a City, Tagbilaran retains the feel of a provincial town, which is a good thing in my opinion. Trees and plants are everywhere and the streets are not too littered by ads and buildings. In fact it reminds me of how my own hometown looked like when I was a kid – which sadly is now a city with very little trees left. The only thing that put me off are some of the roads that need dire repair.

Cool Weather in a Tropical Country

Living in a tropical country, we certainly get tired of the heat. Our normal temperature is at 30 degrees Celcius which means we have to keep our fans turned on 24/7. Sometimes when it gets too hot to bear, we rely on our air conditioner to tide us over the hot weather.

That’s why we look forward to December when the temperature goes down a bit. Temperatures can hit as low as below 20 degrees celcius in the morning. During times like this we reach for our blankets in the wee hours of the morning. The temperature is not low enough for us to invest on heated mattress pads but who knows, maybe in the future it will be. In the meantime, we take advantage of this cool weather by giving our air conditioning units a break. It also lowers down our electricity bills. How I wish our weather is like this for the whole year but I’m glad that at least for a few months we experience some coolness in our tropical country.

My Gift

When my mom came home last August she gave an unexpected gift. It was one of those mens titanium watches I see a lot in magazines but this one was more important because it belonged to my stepfather. It’s of the Tagheuer brand and the first time I owned one. It’s really a work of art. Now I know why people spend a lot of money on watches.
