Router upgrade

We have recently acquired a new D-Link 600 router. And to our surprise, we experienced tremendous improvement in terms of internet connection speed and stability. Since my wife and I use only wifi (a Macbook Pro, an HP Pavillion G4 laptop, plus an iPad2), we have benefited tremendously with this new router. So if you are having problems with your WiFi connection, here are some things to check:

- Do you have the latest WiFi connection technology? –> Currently it should be “N” type WiFi
- Do you have updated WiFi cards on your Laptops? –> Your WiFi connection is only as fast as your slowest Laptop. This means if you have super fast laptops and an old one with “A or B” type connection joins in, the speed of your network will be affected. So make sure to get the latest WiFi drivers for your laptops and other devices.
- Is your router, modem and ISP working as intended? –> Do a router bypass, connect your computer wired to your modem to see if there is a huge difference. If there is a huge difference, then you may adjust the setting of your router, upgrade the firmware, or better yet, consider getting a new router. If the problem persists even when connected directly to your modem, you will have to check on your modem by calling your ISP. With these tips you will be able to get a more stable speed and connection.

Now the only thing I’m thinking of improving is the signal of our secondary internet connection – which is Sun Broadband. I might consider looking at getting a home cell booster which may help with the signal problems I am having with Sun.

Cosplay

Since my wife is not a fan of anime, obviously she is not very familiar with cosplay. Sadly she is missing out on a lot of fun. If she had been a fan, she could tease me by wearing some of my favorite game and anime costumes, or maybe to heat things up she could go for a camo underwear like that from Cammy of street fighter! Well we can’t have everything, so for now it’s just wishful thinking.

Teach kids to use safety razor for shaving

While growing up, I used to hate the idea of growing hair on my face. I knew they were coming but I frantically learned to shave to keep my face clean. The sad part was that since my parents were separated right around the time when I started to grow facial hair. I simply had no one to ask about it. I remember how frustrating it was not knowing what to do. That’s why I will make sure to guide my son on the subject of shaving.

Now a days, I’ve grown to appreciate my beard. In fact for years now, I have a beard that I keep at minimum. This goatee is a regular feature on my face. Now I know better – mostly through trial and error, and I want to help my son understand the basics so that he can face his facial hair without any questions.

My 6 year old son have been asking me about my beard and I have been setting his expectations that he will grow one too someday. At times he feels like it’s just a joke but, there are times when he takes it seriously and asks me: Razors are very dangerous, what if I cut myself? Then I take the time to explain to him that there are safety razors made specifically for shaving, and that there is a proper method of shaving to avoid getting cut.

I hope my son would stay the cute kid that he is but I know soon enough I will be teaching him how to shave. And when I’ve done so, I would be very proud.

Teach kids proper posture

Proper posture is very important.  I for one was not trained to maintain proper posture so up to now, I still struggle with my own posture.  Since what’s done is done, now my aim is to make sure my son will have all the training and information he needs for him to maintain good posture as he grows old.

Hear is how I intend to teach my kid proper posture:

- Set an example, exemplify good posture

- Teach your kid how to sit properly,

- Teach your kid how to stand straight

- Teach your kid how to walk and move with confidence

- Show the difference between good and bad posture

- Compliment good posture

- Explain the muscle strain caused by good posture and how it will get better and how it will make your kid stronger with time

- Monitor progress and make your kid aware of mistakes

- Reward long term good posture

Hopefully when these steps will help you as it helped our family. Next time my son stands for a stadiometer measurement, we hope to see improvements in his good posture.  If you have anything to add or you feel I was wrong at some points, let me know through the comments.

Beauty is a requirement in life. In fact women and men spend a big chunk of their time, effort, resources and money just to be beautiful or stay beautiful. Beauty salons and spas has become the latest craze. And with this need for beauty came the need for people who are experts in beauty.

It has been expanding for the past few years and have been providing cosmetologists for leisure cruise ships, hotels etc. It’s expansion is a clear indicator that Beauty is important, and is becoming more and more a priority among regular people, and not just the rich and famous.

Nirvana was a very strong cultural phenomenon back in my younger years so everyone my age was either influenced by their songs directly or indirectly.

Home Repairs

Since its the rainy season, we expect to see some damage on our old house. If my information is correct, half of the house was built during the late 70′s, and the other half was built when I was around 8 years old.

Now that our house is scheduled for a total reconstruction, we don’t want to spend too much money on repairs as much as possible. Although I love this house and have all my childhood memories on it, I can’t wait to get it fixed for the safety and convenience of my family. It’s also their turn to have happy memories. so for now we will just have to do the minor home repairs.

Wish we had manufactured homes available here, so we can pick a nice house and have it delivered to our lot! For now we wait and we’ll have to see the house being built piece by piece.

Time out at Eastwood

Earlier I went out to process my clearance from the last company that I worked for.  I brought Zyke along just so I won’t get bored and since he also wanted to ride our office elevators again.  When we got there I realized too late that today was a special holiday.  Offices are closed and the people that will sign my clearance will not come to work.

So instead of accepting that we just wasted fuel and time I took my son for a stroll in Eastwood.  We went to the A store and sat at the park right in front of it, with the water fountains.  We waited for more than an hour for the A store to open, because we were supposed to buy an iPad cover.  The long wait was worth it because my son  and I spent quality time together, I taught my son how to imagine shapes of things on clouds and we spent a lot of time doing that.  He also had fun running around and playing with other kids at the park.  When some shops were open we looked around and saw interesting things like a toy store that sells educational toys  that are expensive.  We also saw some buick terraza custom floor mats and other furniture for sale at the next shop. What made the day special still was the clouds and that we spent more than an hour doing nothing just sitting at the park.

From Play Money to Real Finances

Before we used to play with Kuya Z’s play money and challenge coins. But now that he is getting older we are beginning to teach him about finances.

Kuya Z has been saving his real money in a piggy bank (literally – it’s a blue pig plastic coin bank). We have been teaching him the value of saving money and spending his money wisely. If you would ask him where he will spend his savings, he would answer that he will not be buying anything, instead he will save it until he grows up and use it for a very important thing. We are not sure what he wants to buy and I think even Kuya Z is not sure, but he does know that if he just spend his money on snacks or toys, he will lose them.

When he gets older, hopefully he will get wiser and will learn how to increase his finances and how to give back to God.

Bus falling from the Sky

It might sound crazy but yes, there was a bus that fell from the Sky, the SkyWay that is, which is an elevated expressway here. During the midst of heavy rainfall the driver of the said bus was probably running in excess of 100 Kph, and probably hit a puddle of water. The story goes that he lost control, hit the side railings of the road a couple of times before finally falling the road below causing casualties and severe injuries. Sadly people had to die just because a bus driver was not properly trained and was not careful. This is one of the reasons why I dislike driving at roads where bus drivers roam. Hopefully the bus companies will be more strict and supply better training and screening for their drivers after this incident.

Truck driving with Z

Z has just discovered a new favorite game at a local video games arcade. And yes it is a racing game, the only difference is that you are driving a huge truck which carries different types of loads. The graphics are nice and the game takes you through the US – with very nice cinematics. The best part and Z’s favorite is the huge steering wheel! You can really feel it shake as you turn and drive, and with the help of nice audio and a map system like the best trucker gps, it really feels like driving the real thing. We real1ly enjoyed the game, and hopefully in the future we can try driving a real truck! I’m sure Z will be so excited!

Wedding Rings

There are still times when people would ask me if I am married or not, and I would understand them, because I don’t have my wedding ring on. The reason behind that is this – we keep losing our wedding rings. I lost my wedding ring a few days before our actual wedding! So we bought a replacement, but just after a few years – it was my wife’s turn to lose her ring. Maybe we got thinner compared to when we bought the rings – because the rings are too loose. We do not want to stay ring-less forever so we are on the hunt for artcarved wedding bands, and this time we will make sure they fit.
